Xavier Woods makes surprising remarks on The New Day's legacy and his WWE future
The New Day is preparing to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its official WWE in-ring debut. Xavier Woods, Big E, and Kofi Kingston debuted as a trio on WWE SmackDown in 2014 and quickly became one of the top acts in pro wrestling. Woods is now opening up on the group's legacy and his own career.
The New Day dominated as a three-man faction until Big E suffered a severe injury in March 2022. Kofi and Xavier moved forward as a tag team, but a split is rumored due to ongoing tension. The New Day will surely go down in history as one of the greatest factions ever. With 12 tag team championship reigns, the group topped the 50 Greatest WWE Tag Teams of All-Time list.
In a new interview with TV Insider, Woods was asked what he thinks will be The New Day's legacy and how he views the faction's impact from a representation standpoint.
"I just think about us as three guys trying to keep their jobs and wanting to be wrestlers in WWE. We carved out that spot and did it. We’ll do signings. Sometimes people will tell us they worked on the independents and have been doing it for three years. They want to say that watching us coming out and just being ourselves gave them the confidence to be themselves, which might not be what a stereotypical pro wrestler is. The amount of times people have said that to me, it tells me I made the right choices," Xavier Woods said.
Woods also revealed how he feels about what he's already done and his main goal for the future.
"From the day I started training my trainer told me this is a fraternity," he said [...] "I took that to heart. Am I happy about what I’ve accomplished? 100%. Do I want more? 100%. Am I focused on making sure my little section of what I’m close to is better for having me here, yes. That’s my main objective, but it’s all very humbling," Xavier Woods said. [H/T TV Insider]
The New Day has not held gold since Woods and Kingston became NXT Tag Team Champions at Deadline in December 2022, well after Big E's tragic injury. They defeated Pretty Deadly for the titles but were dethroned 56 days later by Gallus at Vengeance Day in a Fatal Four-Way that included Pretty Deadly and Chase U.
Special edition of WWE RAW for The New Day
Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods formed in 2014 and officially debuted on November 28, 2014, at SmackDown with a win over Heath Slater, Curtis Axel, and Titus O'Neil.
Adam Pearce recently announced that the red brand will celebrate The New Day with an entire special episode dedicated to its 10th anniversary. The RAW General Manager has not announced more details, but Big E, Kingston, and Woods are involved. Xavier just revealed significant plans for the RAW special.
The New Day's RAW celebration would seemingly air in November, but WWE still has not confirmed the date as of this writing. Next week's RAW from Glendale, Arizona, is the Survivor Series go-home show, and the December 2 episode in Everett, Washington, will feature Survivor Series fallout.
