Zelina Vega shares heartwarming response amidst fan backlash
Zelina Vega has been in WWE for five years now, ranging over two separate stints. Though she's yet to capture a singles title in the promotion, the first-ever Queen of the Ring has earned the admiration of the WWE Universe.
The 33-year-old's popularity reached an absolute fever pitch back in 2023 when she challenged Rhea Ripley for the RAW Women's Championship at Backlash in Puerto Rico. Despite that, Vega's not been seen on TV much outside of her relationship with LWO.
Recently, fans began demanding a push for her online, leading to her sending her followers a heartwarming message.
The "21 Days" hashtag is in response to how long this particular fan-led campaign has been going. Despite her lack of presence throughout much of this year, Vega managed to keep the people invested. Her in-ring ability and natural charisma have played a large part in that, but she's also been able to prove herself a hero to many by fighting through tragedy.
Vega's father was one of many lost during the horrific 9/11 terrorist attacks, which saw nearly 3,000 people slain. She's spoken on this a few times in the past, and her ability to fight in his honor has convinced even more members of the WWE Universe to fight for her.
Could the promotion be forced to cave to the demands of its fans? It's quite possible, especially considering what we've seen with the likes of Bryan Danielson, Kofi Kingston, and others.
Zelina Vega's massive reaction at Backlash 2023
Backlash 2023 was a special event that saw WWE fly to Puerto Rico, something they'd not done for a PLE since New Year's Revolution in 2005. Zelina Vega was one of three names WWE pushed for the event, hoping to see a major hometown reaction for her, Damian Priest, and multi-Grammy award winner Bad Bunny.
The crowd did not disappoint. Not only were they loud for the event, but they also gave all three of those competitors emotional warm welcomes. Vega appeared draped in the Puerto Rican flag, wearing gear designed to represent the nation.
Despite losing, Vega proved she belonged in title contention. She'd go on to compete in that year's Money in the Bank ladder match as well as challenge Iyo Sky for the SmackDown Women's Championship in August.
If the fans continue to push for Zelina Vega, we just may see her rise to the top on Monday Night RAW.
