NJPW News: Cody Rhodes 'ends career' of WCW star with a single tweet after criticism
What's the story?
After a photo emerged of Cody Rhodes' latest in-ring injury, WCW star Disco Inferno took to Twitter to call out Rhodes and the current generation for being unable to work and risking their health to chase five-star match ratings.
Well, Cody Rhodes didn't take too kindly to the comments and, in his words, "ended the career" of Disco Inferno with a single tweet.
In case you didn't know...
Glenn Gilbertti is best known as Disco Inferno and enjoyed some success in WCW as a mid-card talent -- winning the WCW Television Championship and the Cruiserweight Championship. He now claims to be a "professional VIP wrestling podcast guest" - and he's often been at the center of criticism for his controversial opinions.
The heart of the matter
Well, after sustaining a pretty serious cut at the hands of Kenny Omega, which you can see by clicking on Gilbertti's tweet below, Disco Inferno sent out the following tweet, criticising a star known as one of the best in the world today for his in-ring work.
Well, Omega himself replied, but merely to state that he wouldn't be working for Gilbertti now.
Omega's long-term rival and the man in the photo, however, didn't hold back when he responded. Cody Rhodes told Gilbertti he "couldn't hang" then and can't get booked now in a scathing tweet - then saying he ended Disco Inferno's career with the tweet.
Well, this tweet from Disco Inferno didn't just unite "new" against "old" as Konnan also commented:
What's next?
Well, Disco Inferno has since spent the day replying to tweets, mainly condemning his words and it looks like this war of words rages on - even if Cody Rhodes has said it's over.
We'll bring you further updates as they happen.
Author's take
I'm not a wrestler, so I feel like commenting on what's "dangerous" and what isn't is a moot point from me - but everything is dangerous and all wrestlers know that when they step in the ring.
Sure, the cut looks bad, but these things - and worse - happen. Gilbertti should know that. I think accusing two of the best workers today of chasing a five-star rating is a bit disrespectful. Surely they should always be going out to put on some great work.
Needless to say, I don't think Disco Inferno's words will harm Cody Rhodes' reputation too much.
