NJPW News: Former Bullet Club member Bone Soldier set to make a return to the promotion
What's the story?
Earlier today at NJPW’s Road to Wrestling Dontaku show, a brief video apparently revealed that former superstar Bone Soldier is all set to make his return to the company.
In case you didn't know…
The Bone Soldier character was initially portrayed by former NJPW superstar Captain New Japan - who was mostly used as an enhancement talent in the company prior to being initially released from New Japan Pro Wrestling a few years back.
In 2016, Captain New Japan turned his back on Hunter Club stablemate YoshiTatsu and affiliated himself with the Bullet Club when members Yujiro Takahashi and Chase Owens helped CNJ to brutally deliver a post-match beating to YoshiTatsu, in typical Bullet Club style.
Following his introduction to the Bullet Club, Captain New Japan was eventually given the Bone Soldier gimmick as he entered 2016 World Tag League alongside Bad Luck Fale, however, following his terrible performance at the World Tag League, Bullet Club leader Kenny Omega referred Bone Soldier as an “intergalactic disaster”. Last year, Captain New Japan was released from his NJPW contract.
The heart of the matter
The dissension and confusion within the Bullet Club has been really intense over the course of the last few months and just when we thought that things couldn’t get any more complex, NJPW decides to announce the official return of the ever-popular Bone Soldier, who is now set to make his big return to the company after an absence of almost two years.
As noted, earlier today at Korakuen Hall a brief video hyped up the return of the Bone Soldier and ever since the mega announcement was made two of Bullet Club’s top members Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes also reacted to the news via Twitter.
Below are the reactions of both Cody and Omega:
What's next?
As of right now, we are somewhat not sure if this will indeed be the return of Captain New Japan or if we are going to witness someone else portray the gimmick of Bone Soldier. Only time will tell how this developing story unfolds.
Author's take
Personally, I feel this time we will witness someone else portray the Bone Soldier or this could very well be another vindictive move from "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes, who recently pulled off a huge win over Kenny Omega at ROH: Supercard of Honor XII.
