NJPW News: Huge title change at NJPW New Beginning in Sapporo Day 2
What's the story?
Amidst all the hullabaloo around the Omega-Ibushi reunion and Omega's loss to Switchblade Jay White, this massive title change was forgotten. The Young Bucks are no longer your IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champions.
They dropped the titles to the team of Yoh and Sho, otherwise known as Roppongi 3K. Congratulations to the new champions!
In case you didn't know...
Matt and Nick Jackson, better known as The Young Bucks defeated Roppongi 3K at the Tokyo Dome on January 4th, at Wrestle Kingdom 12. In doing so, they became record 7-time IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champions.
The rematch was set for New Beginning in Sapporo, where the two teams met with much fanfare.
In fact, on the night before, The Bucks delivered the Indytaker to Yoh to win a 6-man tag team match also featuring Kenny Omega (with the Young Bucks) and Jay White (with Roppongi 3K).
The heart of the matter
As is the case with every match featuring the Young Bucks, this was a back and forth affair, where both teams had the advantage at various points in time. The basic story of the match was that Matt Jackson was working with a hurt back, an injury sustained during the match.
Matt Jackson tried to deliver a sharpshooter but his back gave out and he collapsed, exhausted. This allowed Roppongi 3 K to roll him up and pick up the win, to become the new champions.
What's next?
Rocky Romero praised the Young Bucks and said that they would get their rematch, when it was time. However, there's a big new development with The Bucks. Based on everything that happened following the Omega-White match, it certainly would seem that The Elite is no more.
