NJPW News: IWGP United States Championship unveiled

We will see the inaugural IWGP United States Champion this July

Before War Of The Worlds: New York City kicked off, a huge announcement was made. The brand new IWGP United States Championship was introduced to the world. It was then announced that a tournament will be held on July 1st and 2nd at Long Beach, California, as part of the special United States shows by NJPW. This will be the first title that NJPW introduced since the NEVER Openweight Championship in 2012.

NJPW will be holding the G1 Climax at Long Beach in July as part of their expansion. The funny thing is that while WWE will be in Japan in July, New Japan will be in the United States. The timing can’t be coincidental.

It will be very interesting to see who wins the championship. A good choice would be Juice Robinson, as he’s one of the highly pushed American stars in NJPW. While it’s surprising that they introduced the title when they did, it does make sense with the company’s attempt at expanding beyond Japan.

It also adds a greater value to their tour of the United States as well. For those who don’t know, the NJPW shows to take place in the United States sold out within 15 minutes or so. There are currently no tickets available for the shows.
