NJPW News: Rey Mysterio comments on his upcoming NJPW debut
What’s the story?
Earlier in the week, New Japan Pro Wrestling announced that former WWE World Champion Rey Mysterio will make his official in-ring debut for the company at this year’s Dominion pay-per-view. ‘The Master of the 619’ recently commented on his upcoming debut for the Japanese promotion, via his Twitter handle.
In case you didn’t know…
Rey Mysterio was originally scheduled to compete in a match against Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger at NJPW's first ever Strong Style Evolved show which took place on the 25th of March at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California.
However, due to an unfortunate bicep injury which Mysterio suffered at a Northeast Wrestling show, his match against Liger was eventually called off.
The heart of the matter
As noted, New Japan Pro Wrestling recently unveiled the match card for this year’s Dominion 6.9 show and alongside WWE veteran Chris Jericho, former two-time Rey Mysterio has also been confirmed to compete in an NJPW ring, later next month.
Mysterio recently took to his official Twitter handle and commented on his return, as he tweeted the following and hyped up his upcoming scheduled appearance at the Osaka-jō Hall on the 9th of June.
What’s next?
As aforementioned, Rey Mysterio is now seemingly confirmed to compete in an NJPW ring, having previously pulled-out of a scheduled appearance at Strong Style Evolved. However, as noted, Mysterio’s first NJPW opponent is yet to be announced or confirmed and looks like we’ll have to wait for a while in order to find out who gets the opportunity to compete in a one-on-one match against the legendary Mexican Luchador.
Below is the updated card for Dominion 6.9:
Kazuchika Okada (c) versus Kenny Omega - No time limit best two out of three falls match for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship
Tetsuya Naito (c) versus Chris Jericho - IWGP Intercontinental Championship
Los Ingobernables de Japon (Evil and Sanada) (c) versus The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) - IWGP Tag Team Championship
Hirooki Goto (c) versus Michael Elgin and Taichi - NEVER Openweight Championship
Rey Mysterio Jr. versus mystery opponent
Author’s Take
In my opinion, Rey Mysterio’s NJPW debut certainly promises to be a good one and personally, I can’t wait to see who Mysterio’s opponent turns out to be.
