NJPW World Tag League 2016 Results: 26th November, 2016

This year’s World Tag League is heating up

New Japan Pro Wrestling’s World Tag League 2016 continued last night with more matches from the A-Block. NJPW World didn’t stream the event but uploaded the videos of the tournament matches later on the streaming service.

The winners of the World Tag League receive IWGP Heavyweight Tag-Team Championships at Wrestle Kingdom 11 on 4th January 2016 at the Tokyo Dome.

Similar to the Best of Super Juniors and the G1 Climax Tournament, the World Tag-League consists of two blocks during the group stages with the two block winners facing off in the final to see who wins the whole event.

Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa won on the night but the match wasn’t very good. Nakanishi and Henare have chemistry together but they aren’t a threat to anyone in this years’ tournament.

The Guerrillas of Destiny hit Henare with Guerrilla Warfare before Tama Tonga covered him for the pinfall.

War Machine vs Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Satoshi Kojima

War Machine impressed once again

Former Ring of Honor World Tag-Team Champions War Machine have gotten over huge in Japan during their current run. Their no-questions-asked hard-hitting style is just what Japanese fans love from gaijin monsters.

This match was a slugfest with these four men beating the holy hell out of each other. Tenzan and Kojima may have been overpowered by their younger opponents but they continued fighting. War machine showed that they are one of the favourites to win Block-A as the pinned Satoshi Kojima after hitting the Fallout on him.

Following the match, War Machine bowed to Kojima and Tenzan in a sign of respect but the grizzled veteran, Tenzan, didn’t seem too happy.

Tetsuya Naito and Rush vs Breaker and Race

Rush returned to New Japan Pro Wrestling earlier this month as Tetsuya Naito’s surprise tag-team partner for the World Tag-League 2016. Race and Breaker were okay opponents, also Breaker is by far the more impressive of the two.

Naito was as impressive as usual and pulled off the win for his team after hitting the Destino.

Hiroshi Tanahashi and Juice Robinson vs Yujiro Takahashi and Hangman Page

Juice Robinson and Hiroshi Tanahashi have great chemistry

The Buller Club members – Takahashi and Page – were out to prove a point against Tanahashi and Robinson. Takahashi spent quite a bit of the  match biting Tanahashi while Page dragged Tanahashi across the ring while pounding him. There wasn’t much else to mention about this match other than the point where Robinson and Tanahashi played simultaneous air guitar with their opponents locked in abdominal stretches.

Tanahashi and Robinson picked up the win after Robinson hit the Pulp Friction on Page to pick up the pinfall.
