WWE News: NXT Championship rematch announced for Osaka show

If you thought you’d have to wait till San Antonio to see this rematch, you’re mistaken

Usually, championship rematches are not had in NXT until the next Takeover special. However, in this case, it looks like we won’t have to wait that long. It was announced on the latest edition of NXT, that Shinsuke Nakamura will have his championship rematch against Samoa Joe two weeks from now on December 3rd in Osaka Japan, in the Edion Arena.

While it is unclear as to whether it is going to be televised, the chances are very high that it will be. Otherwise, they would not have advertised it. In live events, championships are put on the line as well, but they usually don’t change hands (with the one great exception of Samoa Joe vs Finn Balor) and are kept more to keep the audience engaged.

For Samoa Joe vs Finn Balor at Lowell, Massachusetts, they showed just the finish. However, they have done tapings at house shows as well, most recently for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

What is interesting is that it may determine who will go to the main roster next. The rematch leads to a bundle of questions. Would they put the championship back on Nakamura in his home country? There is a Takeover special that will happen in San Antonio the night before the Royal Rumble.

There may be a high chance that we see Joe vs. Nakamura 4 at San Antonio.

Putting the title back on Joe in 91 days can only mean one of two things: One of them is getting called up soon, or; NXT is just doing another “anything can happen in NXT” moment. A great example of that was when Joe won the championship from Finn Balor at a house show.

As Triple H said in the post-Takeover: Toronto interview, people had it as a foregone conclusion that Nakamura would win (and that Joe would be going up to the main roster very soon), and that is it shocked the fans in Toronto (and around the world) that night.

Many saw Nakamura dropping the title as a looming main roster call up for him, as he was being positioned as the face of NXT. Something similar happened to American Alpha.

They had been built for months altogether, and when they finally had their coronation, they dropped the titles back to The Revival in just two months, and that was because they were being called up to the main roster just a month and a half later. It is possible that there could be a similar chance for Nakamura to go up in that fashion.

However, many fans feel that Samoa Joe should be the one getting into the main roster first, as he has been in NXT for over a year and a half now, and has accomplished practically everything there is to be accomplished on the yellow brand.

Who would you like to see called up to the main roster first, Samoa Joe or Shinsuke Nakamura?
