NXT News:  Olympic wrestler Erica Wiebe attended the NXT television tapings this week

Eri
Erica Wiebe captured the WWE's attention right away after winning an Olympic gold medal in 2016...

What's the story?

411Mania.com is reporting on a special guest at this week's NXT television tapings. Olympic gold medalist Erica Wiebe is at the Performance Center this week and was also at Full Sail Thursday evening as NXT recorded the next four episodes.

In case you didn't know...

Wiebe won the gold medal in the 75 kg freestyle wrestling class at the Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro in 2016. She is the second Canadian woman to win wrestling gold at the Olympic Games, with Carol Huynh being the first in 2008.

The heart of the matter

Wiebe would post a great picture of herself and Triple H on Twitter, and Triple H would also respond to the tweet. Take a look at those two posts below:

John Canton from Uproxx and TJRWrestling.net reported on a story earlier this week that Wiebe is getting a tryout at the Performance Center. Rumor has it that the WWE was instantly interested in Wiebe after she won the gold medal in Rio.

The track record for Olympic and collegiate wrestlers in the WWE is a great one. The best example is a member of the 2016 WWE Hall Of Fame class in Kurt Angle, and one current example on the roster now would be Chad Gable who is currently on Smackdown Live in a tag team with Shelton Benjamin.

What's next?

It is possible that Triple H could present Wiebe with a contract this week or next if she has impressed enough. Stay tuned to Sportskeeda for further developments on this situation.

Author's take

I think it is VERY exciting that the WWE could potentially have a female Olympic gold medalist signed to the company. I think Erica Wiebe would make a great fit in NXT and the WWE and hopefully she can pick things up quickly like her Olympic predecessors in the WWE before her. She could definitely be the female Kurt Angle.
