Fans in attendance at some of the recent NXT live events were surprised to see some of their favorite NXT champions wearing the old title belts.

In case you didn't know....
As a part of NXT Takeover: Orlando, NXT officials unveiled all new designs for each of the yellow brand's championship belts. This event took place as a part of Wrestlemania weekend in Orlando, on April 1, 2017, at the Amway Center. Bobby Roode, Asuka and The Authors of Pain were the first to wear the newly designed belts.
The heart of the matter
Several fans posted photos on social media of both Bobby Roode and Asuka wearing the old title belts at recent NXT live events in Highland Heights, as well as Evansville. There was no official word from the events regarding the reasoning behind the use of these belts.
What's next?
Tonight is the night! NXT takes over the world famous Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois for NXT Takeover: Chicago. All of the NXT titles will be defended as Bobby Roode defends the NXT Championship against Hideo Itami. Asuka will defend her title in a triple threat bout against Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross and in tag team action, #DIY looks to regain the NXT tag team titles as they face The Authors of Pain in a ladder match.
Author's take
While it would be somewhat surprising to see the NXT Superstars wearing the older titles, I believe the reason behind this may be due to the fact that all of the equipment, including championship belts, were likely already shipped to Chicago, for tonight's Takeover pay-per-view event.
