Only one man deserves to be John Cena's final WWE opponent, and it's not Randy Orton
A massive WWE Superstar needs to wrestle John Cena in his very last match. Cena has just announced that he will wrestle his final match in WWE next year.
At Money in the Bank 2024, Cena made a surprise appearance and left the WWE Universe dumbfounded by announcing his upcoming retirement. Cena will be back in the ring in 2025 and make several appearances for WWE through the year. At the Money in the Bank post-show conference, Cena revealed that WrestleMania 41 would be his last WrestleMania but that WWE was planning dates from January through December, when he would finally call it a day.
Many fans are clamoring for John Cena's final opponent to be possibly his greatest rival, Randy Orton. But only one man should get the honor of being Cena's last opponent, and that's The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes.
It would quite possibly be the biggest babyface vs. babyface match in WWE history
Over the years, fans have witnessed a long list of iconic face vs. face encounters. Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania 6, Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena at SummerSlam 2013, and Stone Cold vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 17 immediately come to mind.
Cody is the biggest babyface in modern-day WWE. It won't be a stretch either to call Cena the biggest babyface in the history of wrestling. It would be an epic clash of two of the greatest "good guys" in WWE history.
Cody Rhodes wants a match with John Cena
On the road to WrestleMania 39, Cena and Cody shared a heartfelt moment on WWE RAW with Cena raising the latter's hand. They also had a conversation on the top of the ramp.
Cody later revealed that he asked Cena to have a match with him. Cena said that he can't promise that, but it's clear as day that Cody would love to wrestle Cena in one of the biggest dream matches in WWE's storied history.
Randy Orton vs. John Cena has been done to death
The late 2000s was one of the darkest periods in WWE history according to many fans. The PG Era was at its peak, RAW was almost unwatchable courtesy of the celebrity GM concept, and SmackDown wasn't doing anything for fans either.
Back then, WWE repeated Cena vs. Orton on four straight pay-per-views. At that point, many fans had grown tired of the rivalry. 16 years later, it's safe to say that Rhodes vs. Cena would be a much better idea than to have another Orton vs. Cena match for the sake of nostalgia.
