Opinion: Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey will be even better next year
If there was one match everyone was looking forward to at this weekend's WWE Survivor Series, it was Becky Lynch taking on Ronda Rousey. Although the match has been canceled with Charlotte Flair taking Lynch's place, we can speculate the match taking place at some point in the future.
The background
Becky Lynch, as the SmackDown Women's Champion and Ronda Rousey as the Raw Women's Champion, were supposed to face off at Survivor Series in a Champion vs Champion match.
However, Becky Lynch was injured on the last episode of Raw, where she suffered a concussion and had to vacate her spot. As a result, she had to choose someone else to fight in her place.
Charlotte Flair will now be the one facing Ronda Rousey after Becky Lynch picked her as the one to fight instead at Survivor Series.
Implications
While the turn of events disappointed most of the fans, it goes without saying that it only protected Becky's build right now. While Becky is clearly the fan favourite, Ronda Rousey is portrayed as the most dominant female superstar on the roster.
Her dominant in-ring character is somewhat similar to Brock Lesnar's character in the men's division. It is thus clear that if the match took place, she would have most certainly emerged as the winner.
However, this wouldn't have had good implications for the SmackDown Women's Champion. Becky is among the most loved superstars on the women's roster, if not the most. WWE has certainly banked on her popularity, and made good use of her connection with the audience to create a great character.
She has actually not been a complete heel, and has a much more tweener-ish character ever since she parted ways with her babyface character. As such, her loss to Ronda Rousey would act as a roadblock to the momentum she has generated.
The predictions
Becky Lynch might not be on the card at Survivor Series, but she can for sure make her presence felt. The assault on Raw being led by Becky Lynch and not a male superstar, goes to prove how much WWE values her presence on the roster.
Becky Lynch can thus be a spectator or have some part to play at the Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey match at Survivor Series. While Charlotte has the credibility to take Ronda to the limit, it doesn't look like she would be the winning superstar.
Ronda Rousey's dominance is not something the WWE would like to shatter, and thus a win in Becky's presence would only act as a catalyst to their feud. It would not only be great to make them wait till next year, but would also generate much heat and anticipation for the things to come.
If we were to dig deeper, we would find that Charlotte's loss at Survivor Series would open up the doors for a long time feud between Charlotte and Becky as well. Becky could be the arrogant heel who would go around insulting Charlotte on how she lost to Rousey.
It could further heat things up even more when they meet next year, as Ronda Rousey would have a score to settle with someone who insulted her, and Becky Lynch would be eager to prove herself where she couldn't.
