Opinion: Brock Lesnar doesn't deserve to break CM Punk's title-holding record

Brock Lesnar won the Universal Championship from Goldberg back at WrestleMania 33 and has since been an unbeatable beast on WWE TV since he's taken on all challengers to his Championship over the past year.

Lesnar was expected to lose his Championship to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania back in April, but Lesnar was able to retain his title against his biggest challenger twice in the same month and reports now suggest that the former UFC Champion may not be returning to WWE TV until Money in the Bank on June 17th.

If Brock is still Universal Champion on June 17th then he will have broken CM Punk's 434-day long-standing record as the longest reigning World Champion of the modern era with a 441-day reign.

It appears that the company could have been planning this for some time and it does look as though WWE is petty enough to have wanted to do this so that Punk's name isn't the one in the record books anymore.

Whilst Punk was able to achieve his feat with the WWE Championship and not the Universal title, WWE could argue that they call all their bigger Championships world titles now so the record would overtake Punk.

This isn't the first time WWE has pulled something like this since they decided to allow The New Day to wipe out Demolition's long-standing record when the group was named as part of a lawsuit against the company a few years ago. Nikki Bella was also pushed towards the longest reigning Divas Championship record following AJ Lee's departure back in 2015.

Lesnar doesn't deserve to break the record based on the work he has done over the past year since he rarely appears on WWE TV and has already stated that he wants to return to UFC in the near future, which means that he isn't even loyal to the brand.

Lesnar has wiped out a number of stars who could easily have defeated him for that Championship in the past 14 months, but the company allowed him to bypass everyone to ensure he was seen as the biggest star in the company.

It's looking more and more likely now that Braun Strowman will be the man to defeat Lesnar in the coming months which could be the perfect end to Lesnar's title reign and the beginning of Strowman's push in the main event picture, but it's unknown where this will leave Roman Reigns since he has now lost to Lesnar twice in the space of a month.
