Opinion: Is Finn Bálor slowly turning heel?
For the past couple of months now, both Finn Bálor and The Club have been floundering, seemingly in creative limbo. This led to fans criticising WWE creative for having nothing for a talent at Finn Balor's calibre.
Finn seemed to be doing alright for a while, taking in victories over the like of Bray Wyatt and then even AJ Styles in their first-ever meeting. During this time Finn was the expected challenger of Brock Lesnar's Universal Championship at the upcoming Royal Rumble, so Finn's win over AJ made total sense. Then, the following night on RAW Finn was squashed by Kane in 5 minutes and rumours were leaked that Finn was no longer facing Brock due to Vince McMahon finding him too bland and not over with the audience.
Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, on the other hand, had literally been up to almost nothing after losing the Tag Team Championships to the returning Hardy Boyz at WrestleMania. That's right, these former megastars in Japan were doing next to nothing for over 9 months.
That is, until just last week on RAW when Finn selected his former Bullet Club teammates to be his partners for a tag team match later that night. The match went well and it seemed to be just a one-off reunion until during the week when Finn hinted on social media that it would be more than just a one-time reunion. This week on RAW we saw Finn and The Club now being officially called the Bálor Club and taking in a victory over to babyfaces Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Jason Jordan.
It was interesting to note here that the Bálor Club were coming off a little obnoxious in a heelish way during their show opening segment with Roman and co. So, could Bálor be slowly turning heel? It's not impossible, slow heel turns do happen now and then, with most recently happening on Smackdown with Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin. Whether it is a slow heel turn or a turn that will happen during a match or segment, this is something that Finn needs. This teased heel run has already given him more to do lately than he has had since TLC and RAW is in need of more top heel talent.
Although Finn is indeed very much over with the WWE fans, he was also the best foreign heel in many years to come to Japan during the birth of the Bullet Club and he can be that good again today in WWE.
