Remember, the men's Royal Rumble could be bad and here's why

The Rock's expression says it all, really

I think we are all pretty excited about WWE first-ever women's Royal Rumble match. The match has so many possibilities and almost everyone is expected it to deliver. However, the main selling point and match that most fans are still excited to see will be the men's Royal Rumble, but will it be worth the hype?

Back in 2011, rising star Alberto Del Rio won the first and the only 40-man Royal Rumble match, in which both the match and its results received positive reviews from fans and critics alike. In 2012, former WWE Champion Sheamus won the Royal Rumble match and it was praised for having a surprise winner despite the match itself receiving mixed reviews. These were the last two occasions when both the match itself and winners received a positive response from the masses.

John Cena would win the 2013 Royal Rumble with a very mixed response from fans and critics. Every year since then, no one has been kind to either the match or the winner. 'The Animal' Batista returned to WWE in 2014 and won the Rumble match in front of a bloodthirsty audience.

The live audience issued a "takeover" of the final two hours of the show, first booing all the way through the John Cena vs Randy Orton WWE Championship match and then the Rumble itself when there was no appearance from fan favourite Daniel Bryan. This reaction caused WWE to change the WrestleMania main event to involve Bryan.

Fans were not as ecstatic as Batista was

As hostile as the 2014 Royal Rumble reaction was, the very negative reaction of the fans in attendance for the event in Philadelphia towards the Royal Rumble match and its winner Roman Reigns were described as being even worse.

Although this was due in part to Daniel Bryan being eliminated in the first half of the match, fans were also very much not ready for Roman Reigns to be 'The Guy'. Reigns was booed after winning the match, even after he received an endorsement from The Rock after the match.

The 2016 and 2017 events were both panned by fans and critics, heavily due in large part to their winners, Triple H and Randy Orton being leaked online in the days leading up to the shows. John Cena, Batista and Roman Reigns winning their respective Rumble matches had also been leaked to the internet in the months leading up to them, however, fans had hoped that the early leak of them may have resulted into changes being made. Triple H and Orton winning their's had literally been leaked within a day or two of the events so fans knew there would be no turning back.

As the five consecutive Royal Rumble matches have all had leaked winners and were generally not very exciting matches, this has to make you wonder if we are in store for the very same thing for the 6th time in a row. So far there are few rumoured names who may come out on top, one in particular, who may win his unpopular second and thus we may have the same result we have had since 2013, or even worse, 2014 and 2015 editions in particular.
