Opinion: WWE hints at major change in the Universal Title Match at WrestleMania 34
Did WWE just put themselves in a can't lose situation?
While Roman Reigns winning The Elimination Chamber match to determine who would go on to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34 was a little anti-climatic for some, the post-match beatdown at the hands of Bruan Strowman seemed to hint at the fact that the two Goliath's of WWE aren't exactly finished with each other yet.
In fact, Strowman throwing an off-guard Roman Reigns through a chamber pod and then nailing him with his signature slam seems to put the two superstars on a collision course that will result in Strowman somehow being added to The Universal title match at WrestleMania 34
Not only would adding Strowman to the match at WrestleMania 34 give WWE an out if they can't get fans behind Reigns or sign Lesnar to a new contract with the company, it also all creates an element of chaos to the match that will invite more fans into the fold to watch it play at WrestleMania.
Whether WWE wants to admit it or not, the fans aren't completely behind Reigns as the Universal Champion, especially after all the other times WWE tried to give him a crowning moment at WrestleMania and they would probably rather see Strowman hold the strap at WrestleMania 34 instead.
Another reason WWE would be smart to add Strowman to The Universal title match is the fact that it allows Strowman the possibility to take the title off Lesnar and be the company's next monster heel, which is something they are going to desperately need of Lesnar walks out the door to return to UFC.
Of course, WWE could make the decision to just do Reigns versus Lesnar and just use Strowman as a stepping stone for The Big Dog until WrestleMania 34, but then they wouldn't exactly have a fail safe if Reigns doesn't get the reaction that they were hoping for. It also eliminates some of the much-needed excitement for the second encounter, which is crucial.
In the end, WWE might be able to sneak by with a Reigns win if it isn't the main event match of the evening, but that result is going to be highly dependent on what takes the main event spot instead. With that in mind, WWE will either need Cena versus Undertaker or AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura in order to prevent massive backlash.
