Paul Heyman to betray his friend; 38-year-old star's main event push canceled? 4 Things that will happen if Roman Reigns faces CM Punk at WrestleMania
The tide seems to have turned. Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk is now reportedly being discussed for WrestleMania 41, with both stars originally slated for different opponents.
If such a big match happens, there are bound to be ramifications. Some are completely in storyline, while others are more reality-based. So, let's get into four things that will happen if Reigns does face Punk at The Show of Shows this coming April.
#4. CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns main events Night One (at least)
First things first, Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk will close out whichever show it is on. They might even main event both nights of WrestleMania 41 unless The Rock shows up.
If The Final Boss does return, which seems likely, Reigns and Punk will end up headlining Night One. That would be the case whether or not a world title is involved. While The Best in the World could very easily dethrone Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship, his match against The OTC would be massive regardless.
After all, CM Punk's dream is to main event WrestleMania. And with the creative control Roman Reigns allegedly has, there's no way the two of them would settle for anything other than the main event spot.
3. Seth Rollins falls down the card
Let's get to previous plans now. The biggest potential loser of this entire situation is Seth Rollins, who was seemingly set to face CM Punk at WrestleMania 41. So, for the second year in a row, The Visionary might not get his big match through no fault of his own.
The two will face each other on the January 6, episode of RAW, which is the show's premiere on Netflix. A huge spot for sure, but that's not 'Mania. So, with Punk potentially fighting Roman Reigns, Rollins will need a new dance partner.
Most big names have multiple potential matches for WrestleMania 41, like Cody Rhodes and John Cena. That leaves Seth Rollins in a tricky spot. He may be forced to drop down the card and end up in a midcard match as a result unless a spot opens up from out of nowhere. A huge dropoff after what he did at 'Mania this year.
#2. CM Punk's favor is revealed
The biggest reason CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns remains massive without a title is their common friend, Paul Heyman.
The Wiseman struck a deal with the "devil" to ensure The OG Bloodline defeated Solo Sikoa's crew in WarGames. So, as a result, Punk has a favor he can ask Heyman for whenever he wants. That might be the whole basis of his storyline with Reigns.
Whether that favor is a guaranteed WrestleMania main event or something much more permanent, this would end up being one of the hottest stories in WWE in April.
#1. Paul Heyman leaves Roman Reigns
This is the big one. What if CM Punk's favor was for Paul Heyman to ultimately double-cross Roman Reigns and permanently side with The Best in the World himself?
That would be the ultimate swerve, either before or at WrestleMania 41. The Wiseman has betrayed Brock Lesnar multiple times before, with the most recent one being alongside The OTC. That could very easily happen to Reigns himself. It's the history of Heyman. Time is indeed a flat circle.
Punk joining forces with the WWE Hall of Famer would then kickstart his heel run, which could light the company on fire in 2025. This is the perfect ending to Night One of 'Mania, with The Second City Saint finally achieving his final career goal thanks to his best friend, while the dominant Tribal Chief is left broken.
