Which WWE Survivor Series is at the top of the list?
It has been a Thanksgiving tradition since 1987. Debuting in Richfield, Ohio, it is now the second-longest active pay per view series, placed only below WrestleMania. Comprising of unique variations of eight- and 10-man tag team matches, the program first started off as continuing feuds between bitter rivals. For instance, the main event of 1987 pitted Andre the Giant’s team of himself, One Man Gang, King Kong Bundy, Butch Reed, and Rick Rude defeating Hulk Hogan’s team of himself, Don Muraco, Paul Orndorff, Ken Patera, and Bam Bam Bigelow.
Also, in 1987, Randy Savage was feuding with the Honky Tonk Man for the Intercontinental Championship. While he was unsuccessful in winning the title from HTM, he was able to gather a team at Survivor Series of himself, Jake Roberts, Ricky Steamboat, Brutus Beefcake, and Jim Duggan to defeat Honky Tonk Man’s team of himself, “Dangerous” Danny Davis, Hercules, Harley Race, and Ron Bass.
Throughout the 29 years of the event, there have been a number of exciting, heartbreaking, and exhilarating occurrences, as well as cliff-hanging climaxes, to end the show.
In 1988, the Mega Powers were able to work as an unstoppable and cohesive unit, as they led their team (along with Hercules, Koko B. Ware, and Hillbilly Jim) in a victory against the Twin Towers, Ted DiBiase, Haku, and The Red Rooster. Little did the viewers know that, months later, the Mega Powers exploded, which led to a match between the two at WrestleMania V.
Fast-forwarding to 2014. After nearly 15 years of suspense, the “Icon” Sting made his long-awaited WWE debut at Survivor Series, assisting Dolph Ziggler in dethroning The Authority. Undoubtedly, this was one of the best moments in WWE history.
