What's the story?

During an episode of Viceland's Dark Side of the Ring Series, Jake 'The Snake' Roberts revealed the origins of the name of his finishing maneuver, the DDT.

In case you didn't know...

There are no two ways about it. Jake The Snake is a true WWE Legend. He was considered the master of in-ring psychology and knew how to work with his opponents. His feuds with Ricky The Dragon Steamboat, Macho Man Randy Savage, and The Ultimate Warrior are still remembered to this day.

Years of alcohol and drug abuse took their toll on Jake The Snake, which led him in and out of rehab facilities over the years. But with the aid of former WWE Superstar and now fitness guru DDP, he managed to get his life back on track. He was finally inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014.

The Heart of the matter

As noted above, Jake The Snake revealed how he came up with the DDT name. He describes the move in detail and that it can hurt people if not done correctly. With regards to the DDT origin, He goes onto say,

I actually stole that off a USA Today newspaper one morning and I was going to breakfast ..it said...DDT OUTLAWED...wow...it's got to be some bad s**t..and I was looking for the name of the hold...and I said, f**k it, that's it, right there man, DDT, its a poison that the US government outlawed because it was getting into the foodchain and f***king people's brains up...It kind of made sense at the time.

What's next?

The origin of the name is so simple but so unique at the same time. Several wrestlers can thank Jake The Snake for coming up with it and using it in their move set. Jon Moxley is now currently using a version of it. He will be facing Joey Janela at AEW Fyter Fest.
