WWE News: Dave Meltzer reveals the reason Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar ended so quickly
Goldberg vs. Lesnar part 2 was built as Fantasy Warfare comes to life. It was built as a clash of titans, a clash of icons. The build-up to the match was extremely good, leading to fans highly anticipating the Survivor Series bout. And just like that, it ended in 1 minute and 26 seconds.
Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio said that the reason the match ended so quickly was to get Goldberg more over and do it in the best way possible. Goldberg revealed earlier in the week that he had tweaked his shoulder during the go-home Raw to Survivor Series, where he took out the security separating Brock Lesnar and himself.
Many believed that was the reason why the match ended so abruptly. However, this was not the case.
Goldberg’s squash of Lesnar was how he got over in WCW, and it was in that context that he dominated The Beast Incarnate.
Goldberg confirmed on the latest edition of Raw that he would be participating in the Royal Rumble 2017 in the Alamodome, which also happens to be the 30th edition of the Rumble.
Meltzer noted that Goldberg would perform at Wrestlemania 33 as well, and a rematch with Lesnar is highly likely.
It was said that Lesnar himself was sound with the idea of the squash, and pushed for Goldberg’s deal, seeing money in it. Clearly, it was enough to convince Vince to negotiate with Goldberg for his return to be more than just a one-off. Beyond Wrestlemania, no one but Goldberg himself knows what's next.
