WWE News: Reason why WWE signed Goldberg to a new contract revealed
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, extending the Goldberg-Lesnar feud to Wrestlemania 33 was not the only reason that Goldberg’s contract was extended to 2017. Meltzer stated that another reason WWE is bringing Goldberg back again is because Vince McMahon believes he can help increase the television ratings, something that has been a major concern on the USA Network this year with consistently declining numbers.
Apparently, the deal that Goldberg has is very similar to Lesnar’s, so he is apparently open to wrestling any time that he receives a huge amount of money. Goldberg’s appearance has changed the plans for Wrestlemania 33. Meltzer said that for a while they had been building up to a Shane McMahon vs Brock Lesnar match, but now with Goldberg back, it looks to be more likely that he will be facing off with Lesnar for the third time, and the second time on the grandest stage of them all.
Goldberg is technically 2-0 up on Lesnar, so it should be interesting to see how they play out the story. If WWE does a rehash of their 2004 storyline where Brock Lesnar costs Goldberg at winning the Royal Rumble, then it will definitely receive backlash from the fans. Given the history of the two competitors and the backlash they faced at Madison Square Garden 12-and-a-half years ago, WWE will very likely be extremely delicate in handling the situation.
In the feud, they want Goldberg to be the clear babyface with the fans behind him. In the Survivor Series build-up, every crowd except Minneapolis(which was Lesnar’s hometown) favoured Goldberg over The Beast Incarnate, including Toronto.
The build-up to Survivor Series proved that both competitors could still go, even verbally
Lesnar himself showed a completely different side to him that earned lot of praise from the fans
Would you like to see Goldberg back every few months as a special attraction in the way that Lesnar is?
