Rebooking Survivor Series 2017
Survivor Series 2017 took place on November 19, 2017, in Houston, Texas. The match card included Matt Hardy vs Elias, Kalisto vs Enzo Amore for the Cruiserweight Championship, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs Breezango, IC Champion The Miz vs US Champion Baron Corbin, The Shield vs The New Day, Team Raw’s Women vs Team SmackDown Live’s Women, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos vs Raw Tag Team Champions The Bar, Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, WWE Champion AJ Styles vs Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, and Team Raw’s Men vs Team SmackDown Live’s Men.
While it was a good card on paper, there were several problems including the IC vs US Title match (both Baron Corbin & The Miz are heels so the crowd was not truly behind either superstar), an over-reliance on part-timers, and a sloppy women’s 5 on 5 match.
While the other matches were pretty good, they could be made better.
Kickoff Show: Cruiserweight Championship: Neville (c.) vs Kalisto
Kalisto unsuccessfully challenged Enzo Amore for the Cruiserweight Championship on the Survivor Series 2017 Kickoff Show in a boring matchup. In my fantasy booking, Neville was still Cruiserweight Champion and had never quit WWE. He would have dominantly defeated Enzo Amore at No Mercy before being challenged by Kalisto for a match at Survivor Series. These two were the most well-known cruiserweights in the Cruiserweight division.
Kalisto is a former 2-time United States Champion while Neville was once NXT Champion. They also have a bit of history since Neville unsuccessfully challenged Kalisto for the United States Championship on an episode of Smackdown in January 2016. The two wrestlers have proven chemistry and can have an excellent match on the kickoff show.
With 15-20 minutes of ring time, these two wrestlers can steal the show. The match should arguably end with Neville retaining the Cruiserweight Championship by pinning a game Kalisto with the Red Arrow. Neville could then have moved on to face other wrestlers such as Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali.
