Record-setting duo, a mirror image alliance? - 4 WWE tag team breakups that Triple H has stretched too far
Choosing the right time for a tag team to break up is usually a fine art. WWE normally does a good job of setting the stage for a duo to disband after years of failures or successes.
The Shield had run its course as a trio, leading to Seth Rollins' ultimate betrayal. When the dust settled, each member of the historic faction had hoisted a major WWE title.
WWE currently has a few tag teams that are overdue for change. Triple H is in charge now, and he's stretched out the breakups of the following four duos.
#4. Austin Theory and Grayson Waller are too similar to remain a team
Some may feel that The Awesome Truth served its purpose as the duo to take the World Tag Team Championship from The Judgment Day. The problem with that is how Finn Balor and JD McDonagh recently regained the titles.
The Miz turning isn't big news since he's done it so many times. Austin Theory becoming a face, however, would be a big change. He's portrayed the cocky young upstart for the majority of his WWE career.
His supposed friend, Grayson Waller, has pushed Theory into harm's way on multiple occasions. The time for a split was a few weeks ago, but A Town Down Under continues to press on.
#3. Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair won't be friendly forever
The partnership between Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair is fine for what it is, but it can't last much longer. Both women are strong and athletic, almost mirror images of each other, but extremely overconfident just like Theory and Waller.
Cargill is still green in the industry. Belair has needed a heel turn for years as her entire gimmick is being the best at everything. Her theme even claims she's "on her own against the world." One should turn on the other soon to set up the dream match most fans want to see.
Winning the titles again will further diminish the rest of the women's tag team division. A different team could get some credibility with a decent run. Cargill and The EST are already atop SmackDown.
#2. The Street Profits desperately need a change
There was a time three years ago when it seemed like The Street Profits would end up next to The Usos and The New Day as one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history. The duo won the RAW Tag Team Championship and later exchanged those for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship after being drafted to the blue brand.
After losing the titles, Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford have received several shots over the years but have been unable to reclaim glory. Ford was even getting a singles push last year, qualifying for the Men's Elimination Chamber Match with the United States Championship on the line.
The partnership with Bobby Lashley was also inconsistent, so the former champs need a change. One needs to turn on the other so both can find out what they can do in WWE as singles competitors.
#1. The New Day has run its course in WWE
The New Day's current storyline with The Final Testament has offered the perfect opportunity for a split. It could have happened after Big E was injured, but Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have continued as a tag team.
The Final Testament could use another singles star since only three of the five members are active competitors. Woods or Kofi turning would be a shocking moment and could propel either star forward. It would also give Karrion Kross some credibility.
His promos are always top-notch but he's been stuck in a pattern of 50-50 bookings. He needs one of his targets to turn to the dark side to gain some steam. Breaking up the record-setting New Day would also be a feather in his cap. Odyssey Jones' appearance may eventually lead to the split but it should have already happened.
