Returning star, surprise debut? 3 unlikely matches for SummerSlam 2024
With Money in the Bank 2024 in the rear-view mirror, WWE is officially on the Road to SummerSlam, which will take place in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 3. A handful of matches have already been confirmed.
The reigning King of the Ring, Gunther, will challenge World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest. Meanwhile, Bayley will defend her WWE Women's Championship against Queen Nia Jax.
Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes vs. Solo Sikoa and Logan Paul vs. LA Knight are rumored to occur at The Biggest Party of The Summer.
However, here, we take a detour and suggest three unlikely, but possible, matches for SummerSlam 2024:
#3. Uncle Howdy (Bo Dallas) vs. Jey Uso at SummerSlam 2024
Uncle Howdy returned to WWE with the Wyatt Sicks in an awe-inspiring segment last month. Howdy returned moments after Jey Uso had qualified for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match and led the audience to his firefly-inspired YEET chants.
Although the sinister figures have directed their attention primarily towards Chad Gable, they have also shown some interest in Jey Uso. The Wyatt Sicks helped Main Event Jey defeat Gable on RAW this week.
Not to mention, The YEET Master has kept the fireflies alive, as fans continue to vibe with flashlights during his entrance. Bo Dallas also teased pursuing "false prophets" who betrayed their families. The leader of The Yeet Movement broke free from his kin in The Bloodline, which makes him a prime suspect.
However, Howdy has set his sights on Gable for now and is more likely to face the former Olympian at The Biggest Party of The Summer.
#2. AJ Styles vs. Nick Aldis
This one is a long shot, but a few subtle teases have been dropped. AJ Styles is nearing the end of his career, leading The Phenomenal One to become more desperate and greedy for opportunities.
Styles even faked retirement to receive another WWE Championship opportunity against Cody Rhodes. However, he wouldn't have needed to go to such lengths if SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis had cooperated with him and granted him more chances.
Yet, Aldis always turned down The Phenomenal One. There is a slight possibility, however negligible, that this angle could be channeled into a potential marquee feud for SummerSlam.
Styles and Aldis were key figures in TNA, and WWE could look to capitalize on their history to book a potential feud between the two veterans.
#1. CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Seth "Freakin" Rollins
CM Punk did it again! The Best in The World cost Drew McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank by thwarting the latter's cash-in. However, this time around, The Straight Edge Superstar also stuck his nose in Seth Rollins' business.
The Visionary wasn't too pleased with Punk's involvement, and the two rivals addressed each other on RAW. The Straight Edge Superstar sarcastically apologized to the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion, who warned the injured veteran of some consequences.
WWE could conveniently channel the mutual hatred and brewing animosities into a colossal Triple Threat at SummerSlam. But it is rather unlikely. The company has been building towards Punk vs. McIntyre for months, and inserting Rollins into the mix would take the attention off the central narrative.
Secondly, Triple H could be planning Punk vs. Rollins for WrestleMania 41. Therefore, it wouldn't be wise to give away both blockbuster matches with a Triple Threat at SummerSlam.
