What’s the story?

In a recent “10 Questions” article with ROHWrestling.com, former Ring of Honor World Champion Jay Lethal revealed the best advice he has received in Pro Wrestling till date.

In case you didn’t know…

In 2011, Jay Lethal made his return to Ring of Honor and immediately defeated El Generico in order to win the ROH TV Title and by 2014, Lethal became the first ever wrestler in ROH history to hold the ROH TV Title on two different occasions. Following his TV Title win, Lethal would go on to defend the belt against the likes of Matt Taven, ACH, Matt Sydal, Caprice Coleman, and Alberto El Patron as well. Lethal would go on to hold the ROH TV Title for a staggering 537 days, over the course of 36 title defences before eventually losing the title to Roderick Strong.

In 2015, Lethal defeated Jay Briscoe in a winner-takes-all "Battle of the Belts" in order to win the ROH World Championship for the first time. Additionally, Lethal also successfully defended the ROH World Title in various promotions such as Preston City Wrestling, NJPW, and RevPro UK. As part of 2015’s “supershow” with Preston City Wrestling, Lethal retained the ROH Title in three individual defenses over Noam Dar, Doug Williams and Joey Hayes and through ROH’s working relationship with NJPW, Lethal made his debut for the Japanese promotion and at the Wrestle Kingdom 10 in order to successfully retain his ROH World Title against Michael Elgin. Lethal would also return to the UK and also successfully retain the World Title against Mark Haskins in RevPro UK.

Lethal’s World Title reign eventually came to an end in 2016 at 427 days when he was defeated at Death before Dishonor XIV by former Bullet Club member Adam Cole.

The heart of the matter

Jay Lethal recently told ROHWrestling.com that the greatest advice he ever received his wrestling career was from former WWE World Champion and NWO originator Kevin Nash, who evidently told Lethal that there is no point in working in the wrestling business if you’re not having fun in the first place.

Additionally, Lethal also claimed that he fully did not grasp Nash’s advice until a few years, when he realized that he would work hard and have fun at the same time.

“Kevin Nash told me, ‘If you’re not having fun, then what is the point?’ I didn’t fully grasp it until a few years later when I realized that I could have fun and work hard at the same time.”- Jay Lethal stated.

What’s next?

Jay Lethal is currently working with Ring of Honor, where has allegedly fallen down the rankings ever since he dropped the ROH World Title to Adam Cole in 2016.

Author’s Take

Jay Lethal is one of the best wrestlers on the planet today and arguably the best performer who is signed to Ring of Honor today.
