Roman Reigns losing his title, NXT star called up? - 4 possible surprises for WWE SmackDown (October 27, 2023)
WWE SmackDown is set to air Friday night on FS1. While the show typically airs on the FOX Network, the blue brand is occasionally pre-empted, and this week will be an example of exactly that.
The blue brand's latest show will take place live from the Fiserv Forum, which is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. According to WrestleTix, over 11,000 fans are expected for the show, continuing a hot streak of 10,000+ fans weekly that has been going for a few months now.
So far, just two segments have been announced for the big show. LA Knight and Roman Reigns will have a contract signing ahead of their upcoming bout at Crown Jewel. Plus, Santos Escobar and Rey Mysterio will battle The Street Profits.
Needless to say, a lot more action will be going down on the blue brand's upcoming episode. This article will look at a handful of surprises that new General Manager Nick Aldis may have in store, and even one that could catch him off guard too.
Below are four possible surprises for WWE SmackDown on FS1.
#4. Jey Uso could once again attack
Jey Uso is absurdly popular these days. The former Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion is beloved by the fans. That was perhaps more evident than ever last week when Jey showed up to SmackDown to attack his twin brother Jimmy.
When Main Event Jey Uso removed his mask, the fans went crazy for him. Unfortunately, Nick Aldis didn't seem quite so thrilled. He fined Jey for showing up to the blue brand as a RAW Superstar, and had him removed from the building.
When Jimmy Uso shows up to SmackDown this week, he may once again be confronted or attacked by his twin. Jey clearly hasn't forgiven Jimmy for costing his brother two different title matches, and a combined four championships since SummerSlam. Will security be able to hold Jey Uso back?
#3. Kairi Sane could finally return
Kairi Sane is a tremendous wrestler. She first began her career in Japan, but later joined WWE through the Mae Young Classic. She won that tournament, and went on to capture the NXT Women's Championship.
The Pirate Princess also captured the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles alongside Asuka, while the pair were on Monday Night RAW. Unfortunately, she left the company in 2020, but she's rumored to be returning soon.
Fans have been eagerly expecting her return ever since the rumors floated around SummerSlam weekend. Months later, Sane may finally show up on Friday Night SmackDown. She could, perhaps, stand up to Damage CTRL or even aid IYO SKY against those looking to dethone her.
#2. Wes Lee could be called up to WWE's main roster
Wes Lee is one of the best athletes in WWE. While fans of RAW and SmackDown may not be familiar with him, viewers of the NXT brand have seen Lee win multiple tag team titles, and have arguably the greatest North American Championship reign ever.
Unfortunately, Lee has been absent from NXT as of late. After failing to defeat Carmelo Hayes and a few other stars, Wes, in frustration, cleared out his cubby backstage at the WWE Performance Center. In theory, he seemingly had quit the brand.
It remains to be seen when, where, and even if Wes will return. If he does, however, it may be as part of the main roster. He could even follow Dragon Lee to SmackDown, and debut this Friday if Nick Aldis can manage to sign the former champion. Wes could even challenge the winner of the upcoming Rey Mysterio vs. Logan Paul match.
#1. Damian Priest could cash in on Roman Reigns
The upcoming contract signing between Roman Reigns and LA Knight has raised a lot of intrigue. Many fans are curious if The Megastar can dethrone Roman of the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Crown Jewel.
Unfortunately for Knight, he may not get the chance. There's a chance that Damian Priest could appear on SmackDown and cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, and go on to win the coveted prize.
The Judgment Day roll together. If Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio, and even JD McDonagh, help Priest beat down Roman Reigns unexpectedly, Priest could cash in on the spot, and walk away as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion for the first time. This would dramatically shake things up in the company.
