Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins to re-form The Shield; 39-year-old star replacing Jon Moxley? Exploring the possibility
Twelve years ago today, on November 18th, 2012, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Jon Moxley (FKA Dean Ambrose) made their main roster debut as The Shield at the WWE Survivor Series. The Hounds of Justice are widely regarded as one of the most dominant factions in the Stamford-based company's history.
After a legendary stint, their alliance ended in 2014 when Rollins turned his back on Reigns and Ambrose. Later, the stable reunited in 2019 before Jon Moxley left the company. The Visionary and the OTC have feuded multiple times since then, with the latest taking place on the Road to WrestleMania XL earlier this year. Roman has been battling with The Bloodline in recent months and is currently outnumbered by Solo Sikoa's faction. Seth has already rejected the offer to join his former Shield brother's side.
This past Friday on SmackDown, Bronson Reed joined The Bloodline as the fifth member for the upcoming WarGames match against the OG Bloodline at Survivor Series. The upcoming episode of RAW is a pre-taped episode of the show, and the results have already been leaked online. SPOILERS Ahead.
Rollins will take on Bronson Reed in a singles match. However, The Bloodline will interfere in this bout, leading to The Usos and Sami Zayn making the save. This could possibly lead to Seth Rollins agreeing to join the OG Bloodline. The reunion could repair the sour relationship between Reigns and Rollins and possibly lead to The Shield reunion.
However, Jon Moxley is currently signed with AEW, and his deal will not expire anytime soon. With Moxley's absence, the company could add Cody Rhodes as the third member of the legendary faction. The 39-year-old has teamed with both Rollins and Reigns this year. Cody teamed up with Seth at WrestleMania XL to take on The Rock and Roman Reigns. Fast forward to October, at Bad Blood, The American Nightmare and the OTC squashed their beef and teamed up to take on Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu.
The American Nightmare is also one of the few superstars on the roster with the stardom to stand alongside the Original Tribal Chief and The Visionary. It was reported that Netflix wants Reigns, Rhodes, and CM Punk on RAW next year.
WWE has announced that Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes will appear on the premier episode of RAW on Netflix, hinting that they might become permanent members of Monday Nights. With Seth Rollins already part of the red brand, the three superstars could form an alliance in the future.
The Shield has welcomed some new members in the past. Kurt Angle joined Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins at TLC 2017 as the third member in Roman Reigns' absence. The same year, Triple H became the third member of the faction during the company's live event tour in the United Kingdom.
Seth Rollins breaks character to praise his former Shield brother, Roman Reigns
Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns's on-screen animosity is at its peak. Recently, When Solo Sikoa approached him to join his Bloodline for WarGames, The Visionary declined, saying that he would never team up with Roman again and would undoubtedly never team up with a Reigns wannabe.
The former World Heavyweight Champion also played an essential role in ending Roman Reigns' iconic Undisputed WWE Universal Title reign at WrestleMania 40. Many might not know that, in real life, Reigns and Rollins are still good friends.
A glimpse of this was seen last year ahead of WrestleMania XL when Seth Rollins broke his character during an interview with Cam Heyward of ESPN. The Visionary praised his former faction mate and called him his "brother."
"He is one of the greatest ever to do it. I'll say nice things about him. He's my brother; we came up together. He is one of the greatest to ever do it. I don't always agree with him, but he is one of the greatest to ever do it. No doubt," Seth Rollins said.
It will be interesting to see how Roman Reigns reacts to Rollins joining them as the fifth member for the WarGames match and whether The Shield will reunite in the future.
