Roman Reigns on being unhappy over WWE's decision, not achieving what he envisioned and more
Roman Reigns has achieved quite a lot in his short career with the WWE.
The Samoan superstar won the 2015 Royal Rumble after finishing runner-up in the 2014 edition. He is also a former tag team champion and more important than everything else, he has been seemingly handpicked by Vince McMahon to lead the WWE into the next decade.
However, the journey has not been completely smooth for the cousin of The Rock. Reigns found himself in the unenviable position of getting booed by the WWE fans who could not digest the company’s apparent mistreatment of Daniel Bryan and the backlash caused the WWE creative to insert Seth Rollins into Reigns’ one on one world title match with Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania. That would end with Reigns lying defeated on the mat after a Curbstomp from his former Shield-brother.
Reigns, ever since, has tried to pick himself up and one of his more entertaining angles has been with Bray Wyatt. However, a controversial spot occurred when WWE decided to introduce Roman’s daughter Joelle into the feud with Wyatt showing off a picture of the child in one of his promos (below)
Recently on The Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast, Reigns confessed that he was not pleased about having his daughter involved in the story line but was also quick to defend the company, saying that he did not believe that WWE went over the line.
Reigns explained that he allowed the photograph to be used as it came from promotional work he did for the Ad Council Fatherhood public service announcement, rather than the family album.
"The picture wasn't something that came from my home or private, like, me and [Joelle] selfie or something like that. It was a promotional thing that we did. It's in the malls. You can probably see it on my Twitter, so that's why I was okay with that."
Reigns continued, “It was something to spark, but too much is too much and I thought we were able to push a line and stay there and not go too far and we were able to go back towards the wrestling and the talent and us telling our individual competition story [as] opposed to getting too deep into that type of real life situation."
Reigns also said that he is proud to have achieved so much in the business, but it still ‘wasn’t exactly like I pictured it’. Reigns felt that he still has an opportunity to ‘make it how he envisioned it. Below is an excerpt from the podcast.
"I've been so fortunate to do so many incredible things in such a short time. Like, I came into this business with a plan to have a great career and do certain things, and bucket list stuff and goals to check off. I didn't think I'd do the stuff I've done thus far as quickly, and, I mean, not everybody is a religious person, [but] to me, that's God. But it wasn't even perfect. It was the best stuff ever to happen to me, but it still wasn't exactly like I pictured it. So, God willing, I still have an opportunity to, like you said, make it how I pictured it."
