Ronda Rousey Channels Her Inner Sonya At Elimination Chamber
The Elimination Chamber might have been one of the shortest Pay-Per-Views of the year so far, but there were moments that got the crowd hyped during the show. One moment, in particular, was the noticeably new attire from Raw Women's Champion Ronda Rousey.
Instead of her traditional Rowdy Piper attire, she came into her match against Ruby Riot dressed as Mortal Kombat Character Sonya Blade from the upcoming game release. The champion also sported the MK medallion that fans of the game can get when they pre-order the game.
Rousey is the voice of the iconic game character in Mortal Kombat 11, which is set to be released in April. To also add to the context of her new look, before she made Riot tap out to the Armbar, she yelled "Flawless Victory" and applied the position to retain her title. She admits to mimicking her when she first played the game when she was young.
The look was well received by the crowd which led to the noticeable lack of booing towards her, because how can you boo a wrestler who is cosplaying a well-known character.
This is not the first time wrestlers cosplayed as characters for Pay-Per-View Events. Rousey now joins the list of wrestlers including the New Day, who cosplayed as the cast of Final Fantasy at WrestleMania in 2017, and Selena Vega who also cosplayed as Street Fighter character Vega, also known as Balrog in Japan, at this year's Royal Rumble.
This will not be the last time we see her in the Sonya Blade attire, as they're plans for her to wear another costume inspired by the character at this year's WrestleMania against Charlotte Flair, or based on what happened at the chamber, Becky Lynch.
With the game set to be the biggest release of the year, having her dressed this way sheds a bit of babyface light on the wrestler, as Blade is perceived to be a good guy fighting against evil.
What are your thoughts on Rousey's new attire? Should she keep this look and ditch the Piper jacket?
