35-year-old WWE RAW star "earmarked" to win next year's Royal Rumble - Report

While WWE Royal Rumble is still nearly eight months away, it seems like Triple H and Co. have already started planning for the event. A new report has provided info on who could win the next year's edition of the men's battle royal, and it looks like Gunther is the chosen one.

The Ring General has been absolutely dominant since making his main roster debut last year. The Austrian recently surpassed 400 days as the Intercontinental Champion and is close to surpassing Honky Tonk Man's 434-day record. He was the ironman of this year's Royal Rumble, as he lasted over sixty minutes in the match after entering at #1. Gunther was the last person to be eliminated and made five eliminations throughout the bout.

While he was inches away from victory this year, it seems like Gunther could go all the way at Royal Rumble 2024. According to Xero News, the 35-year-old "has been earmarked as an early potential candidate to win the Royal Rumble match in 2024." It was also noted that The Ring General will challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40 if things go according to the current plans.

If they decide to go down that route, he will go on and challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40.

Gunther will be in action at WWE Night of Champions

Gunther is set to defend his Intercontinental Championship at WWE's upcoming premium live event. The Ring General will face Mustafa Ali, who punched his ticket to Saudi Arabia after winning the #1 contender battle royal on Monday Night RAW.

The Imperium leader has successfully defended his title against the likes of Sheamus, Shinsuke Nakamura, Drew McIntyre, and many others. It would be a huge upset if Ali manages to dethrone him.

However, the 37-year-old looked fairly confident in his post-RAW interview:

“Are you showing concern for me? I get it, dominant champion, reign of terror, whatever you wanna call. This is the way I look at it, Gunther got chops, baby I got hops. Gunther hits hard but from now on I am going to be at the top of the card. So, now don't worry about me, all you have to do from now on is call me the new Intercontinental Champion,”- Ali said.

Gunther is most likely to break Honky Tonk Man's record if he manages to retain the Intercontinental Championship at WWE Night of Champions. With reports indicating that he is bound to go after the world title down the line, it'll be interesting to see who finally manages to dethrone The Ring General.
