5-time World Champion to officiate major match at WWE SummerSlam - Reports
WWE's Biggest Party of The Summer is set to take place in the first week of August. According to a new report, Seth Rollins is set to play a major role at the event as a Special Guest Referee.
Earlier this year, Seth Rollins unexpectedly returned on Monday Night RAW after Clash at the Castle. However, the former two-time WWE and one-time World Heavyweight Champion has unfinished business with Drew McIntyre and CM Punk heading into The Biggest Party of The Summer.
According to WrestleVotes, the former two-time Universal Champion would be the Special Guest Referee for Punk vs. McIntyre. The report also states the creative is under the assumption that The Second City Saint would be ready to compete at the event in Ohio, and he's expected to get in-ring clearance before the end of the month.
"Source states the current plans have Seth Rollins as the special guest referee for the CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre SummerSlam match. Creative is proceeding under the assumption that Punk will be ready for action, with the anticipated clearance date set for the Monday beforehand, 7/29."
Why is Seth Rollins upset with CM Punk upon returning to WWE?
Last year, Seth Rollins was fuming, as CM Punk returned to WWE during Survivor Series: WarGames in Chicago. The two were expected to clash at The Showcase of The Immortals in Philadelphia. However, The Second City Saint's tricep injury scrapped those plans, and Rollins faced Drew McIntyre instead.
Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre mocked CM Punk in Philadelphia, which cost The Scottish Warrior his World Heavyweight Championship to The Judgment Day's Damian Priest. The intense rivalry between McIntyre and Punk has been going on for months on Monday Night RAW.
However, it all changed when Seth Rollins suddenly returned to Monday Night RAW. The Visionary aimed to win back the World Heavyweight Championship from The Archer of Infamy and failed to do so at WWE Money in the Bank in Toronto due to CM Punk and Drew McIntyre.
During the event, The Scottish Warrior cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and made it a Triple Threat Match. Later, The Straight Edge Superstar interfered and cost Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship.
The Visionary is upset at The Straight Edge Star, as he cannot compete for the prestigious title as long as Damian Priest is the champion due to their "Gentlemen's Agreement." Elsewhere, Drew McIntyre wants revenge from CM Punk, as he cost him the title on different occasions.
