70-year-old WWE legend wants royalties for stolen gimmick
A WWE legend seemingly wants royalties for a stolen gimmick, and another star has said it. The two shared a picture together on social media.
Ted DiBiase is one of the most well-known names from his time in wrestling. His character was beloved by WWE fans despite him being a heel for most of his career.
JBL's character was quite similar to that of the legendary WWE Superstar, who was the Million Dollar Man. Much like DiBiase, JBL sold the fact that he was rich and made it clear that he could buy his way into anything that he wanted. While he was not exactly the Million Dollar Man, it was his gimmick, and it was clear that he was going for with his character.
In a recent Instagram post, JBL said that he had been talking with DiBiase about how the current stars and wrestlers were stealing gimmicks and that they needed to stop it. In answer, DiBiase told him that JBL owed him royalties, taking a shot at him for having had a similar gimmick as him.
"I was just telling Ted that these kids gotta quit stealing gimmicks. Ted says I owe him royalties…"
This exchange was clearly in good humor. JBL posted a picture with DiBiase along with the caption.
JBL's last run in WWE failed
While JBL is best known for his runs in the company in the 2000s and his title reigns during that time, he also had a brief run recently that didn't quite work out.
The Hall of Famer returned in late 2022 as the manager for Baron Corbin. He was putting over the star as one of the best in the business, but it just didn't take off.
Fans didn't get behind it and as a result, it ended up being forgotten, with the character being reverted. Corbin went back down to NXT after it failed so that he could reinvent himself.
