AEW interested in WWE's Kevin Owens, contract update - Reports

Kevin Owens has finally snapped on Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. It was a heel turn viewers expected — and wanted to some degree — but WWE delayed it. The moment itself was innovatively captured for social media seemingly by fans, as it happened off-camera following Bad Blood on October 5.

With rumors swirling about his inevitable match against The American Nightmare, there is a new update on The Prizefighter's WWE contract. Owens still has not signed a new deal with the Stamford-based promotion, albeit his current contract will expire by early 2025.

Per Fightful Select, AEW maintains a major interest in him and that has been the case for a long time now. WWE approached the two-time WrestleMania headliner about a month ago, but they have not agreed upon anything yet. Needless to say, Kevin Owens will receive major deals from either wrestling promotion in the coming months.

There was also a report that WWE is considering Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens as the headliner for Saturday Night's Main Event, scheduled for December 14. The show is returning after 16 years, marking its 37th edition. A showdown with his former ally Randy Orton is also not out of the realm of possibility after Owens attacked The Viper recently.

Will WWE push Kevin Owens back into a decade-long rivalry?

On November 30, WWE will host the company's final "Big Four" Premium Live Event in 2024 — Survivor Series: WarGames. There are rumblings that Jey Uso and Sami Zayn will join Roman Reigns in The OTC's quest to take down the group he formed four years ago. It is reportedly the main event program being discussed for the Thanksgiving event.

Former WWE analyst Matt Camp touched upon Zayn's possible addition on Busted Open, noting how The Prizefighter may have a problem with it considering what has happened recently with The American Nightmare.

"I know someone who wouldn't be too happy about that. Someone who took his frustrations out on Cody Rhodes outside of his bus last Saturday. Someone who last night interrupted the show, who got Cody to come out and confront him. And someone who is not happy with Randy Orton either. You think Kevin Owens will be happy if Sami Zayn ended up with Roman Reigns, and dare I say, could that lead to yet another Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn feud? It's a possibility," Matt Camp said.

While The Bloodline's former Honorary Uce has not been teased on television yet as a possible addition to Roman Reigns' team, it is a heavy rumor which makes sense from a storyline standpoint.
