Another surprising update on WWE's reported plans for Goldberg vs. Gunther
There has been a lot of speculation about a potential match between Goldberg and Gunther following the events of Bad Blood 2024. A new report has provided another surprising update on plans for the bout.
On a Live Q&A with Bill Apter and WrestleVotes on Backstage Pass, it was first reported that the entire Goldberg return angle began on short notice. It was potentially being looked at as a match for the 2024 Survivor Series card. However, plans for the much-awaited contest have undergone numerous changes.
On the Wrestling Observer Newsletter via WrestleTalk, it was reported that as of now Gunther vs. Goldberg was unlikely to take place at Survivor Series 2024 or WrestleMania 41. This leaves a lot of doubts as to when WWE actually plans to hold the bout.
The Hall of Famer has been brought back on numerous occasions for WWE's bi-annual shows in Saudi Arabia. However, assuming that it happens post-WrestleMania around May, there's still a lot of time left to pick up the feud again.
WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long had a surprising suggestion for Goldberg before facing Gunther
Goldberg has been criticized for his in-ring work by many fans and professionals. In response, he once compared himself to Mike Tyson in the 1990s, when people paid to watch him score quick knockouts. In a similar light, the wrestling legend said people would pay money to watch him get the job done quickly in the ring.
On a previous episode of Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine, WWE Hall of Famer and ex-SmackDown general manager Teddy Long had a surprising suggestion for what the former Universal Champion should do before possibly facing Gunther.
"If they want to do something with him and Gunther, then let him go to NXT. Let him stay down there two or three weeks, get the rust off of him, work with Shawn [Michaels] and some of those guys down there that know what they're doing. You know what I mean? And get it right." [5:06 - 5:17]
It's unclear whether Teddy Long was referring to the WWE Performance Center or NXT TV when discussing the prospect of Da Man's in-ring return. The idea of the legend competing on NXT seems unlikely at this stage, as his appearances are limited and crafted specifically to tap into his status as a special attraction.
