Backstage reaction to Damian Priest's performance at WWE Clash at the Castle revealed - Reports

WWE Superstar Damian Priest main evented Clash at the Castle this past weekend. A recent report reveals backstage reaction to The Judgment Day member's performance at the premium live event in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Archer of Infamy defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre in the latter's home country. Priest and McIntyre put forth a highly entertaining match, which ended with the champion retaining his title after involvement from The Scottish Warrior's rival CM Punk.

During the opening moments of the bout, Damian Priest had an injury scare as he accidentally got his ankle tangled in the ropes. The World Heavyweight Champion, however, continued to wrestle and performed his moves to perfection and scored the all-important win. In Fightful Select’s Backstage Report, Sean Ross Sapp noted that Priest received a lot of praise for his performance at the premium live event.

Damian Priest claims he is ready to face former champion at WWE SummerSlam

Damian Priest captured the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XL by cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on Drew McIntyre moments after the latter defeated Seth Rollins for the title.

Prior to his recent win over the Scotsman, Priest successfully defended his title against Jey Uso at WWE Backlash: France. The Judgment Day member recently talked about another potential challenger for his championship.

Gunther recently won the King of The Ring Tournament. In addition to the crown, The Ring General also earned an opportunity to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE SummerSlam.

During the post-event press conference in Glasgow, Damian Priest admitted that Gunther is a tough competitor to lock horns with as he praised the former Intercontinental Champion. Priest, however, claimed he would score the all-important win come SummerSlam:

"I'm the World [Heavyweight] Champ. I'm going to face Gunther at SummerSlam. Look, we all know how good he is in the ring. His IC title run was historic. So, I get it. I get the challenge that he is going to be. But again, please tell me I can't beat him. Please tell me I can't beat Gunther. Because I can't wait to shove that one down everybody's throats as well at SummerSlam," he said. [From 18:48 to 19:45]

Gunther holds the record for the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history. The Imperium leader held the title for 666 days before losing to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL. It will be interesting to see how he fares against The Judgment Day member if the two lock horns at SummerSlam.
