Backstage reaction to former Universal Champion's unique promos on WWE SmackDown - Reports
The current version of Kevin Owens on WWE SmackDown is seemingly more dangerous than ever. After taking out Randy Orton with an unsanctioned Piledriver, the former Universal Champion was barred from appearing on the show for a few weeks.
During this time, Owens began cutting promos from inside his car, a unique format that has since become a regular feature. He even had a sit-down interview with lead commentator Michael Cole inside his car during the latest episode of SmackDown. According to a recent report from Fightful Select, these interviews from the car have been well received backstage in the company.
The Prizefighter will be in action this upcoming weekend at Saturday Night's Main Event. He is set to face Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
WWE legend recently praised Kevin Owens' car interviews
The current feud between Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes has become deeply personal, drawing significant interest from fans. One of the key reasons for this has been the stellar character work by both men as each believed that they were right and had been wronged.
During a recent episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's Smack Talk podcast, WWE legend Dutch Mantell discussed this aspect of the rivalry. Mantell noted that Owens' car interviews were beginning to resonate with fans, thanks to Owens' ability to effectively convey the story. He praised Owens for doing a great job in making the feud with Cody Rhodes compelling.
"Hey, the car interviews with Kevin Owens are starting to get over. What's making them get over is Kevin does such a good job with it. It feels like he's talking from the heart, he's telling the story, and he's never at a loss for words. It's like he's in an argument, he's really trying to get his points across and he's getting his points across. If you say who's right, who's wrong, if you listen to the interview, you don't know who's right. Kevin, he believes in what he's saying and Cody believes what he's saying," Dutch Mantell said. It will be interesting to see if Kevin Owens can defeat The American Nightmare at Saturday Night's Main Event and become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
