Backstage report on CM Punk discussing a new contract with WWE ahead of SummerSlam

There's been a lot of speculation recently regarding CM Punk's contract status with WWE. A new report has emerged with some clarification on the matter.

After it was reported that CM Punk was looking to restructure his WWE contract so he could get a bigger deal, Mike Johnson of PWInsider debunked the rumors by reporting that The Second City Saint is signed until November 2026 and his initial deal is not coming up. He added that while the two sides are discussing a new contract, WWE approached the multi-time champion and not vice versa.

Fightful Select has confirmed that CM Punk's contract isn't coming up yet, and that WWE was interested in expanding the deal because business has been very successful. The site couldn't confirm whether injury time was added to his contract, but it noted that Punk didn't actually stop working for the company while he was injured, as he made multiple on-air appearances and even volunteered to help out at NXT.

Fightful Select added that the former AEW World Champion has overcome the reputation he had and he's been easy to deal with in WWE.

CM Punk on the biggest concern he had after signing with WWE last year

When The Straight Edge Superstar left WWE on bad terms in 2014, nobody imagined that he'd return to the company nine years later in November 2023 in front of a sold-out crowd in Chicago. While he was happy to be back, he hid have a little concern.

CM Punk told Denise Salcedo that after he signed with WWE last year, he questioned whether people were going to remember him.

"I'm not sure I had a whole lot of concerns outside, 'Are the people going to remember me?' And that sounds ridiculous but as somebody who's in the public spotlight constantly, I think that's just one of those things. As a performer, you always have that voice in the back of your head that's like, 'Are they going to remember, is this going to be a thing?' and it wound up being - I knew it was going to be a big deal. It wound up being I think way bigger of a deal than any of us realized," said Punk.

CM Punk's first televised singles match in 10 years will take place at SummerSlam against Drew McIntyre.
