Backstage update on major names finally joining WWE roster - Reports
WWE continues to stack its roster in the new era and it doesn't look like there are any signs of them stopping. Now free agents with twenty-plus championship reigns between them are reportedly set to debut, but there's a twist when it comes to post-retirement life.
The Motor City Machine Guns are reportedly WWE-bound. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin first teamed up in 2006. Since then they have held numerous tag team championships, in TNA, NJPW, ROH, and GCW, among others. The Detroit natives are widely regarded as a legendary tag team.
The Future and The Next became free agents after leaving TNA in March. It was believed that they would end up in AEW. PWN's Cory Hays now reports that the two sides had talks and it looked like they would sign with All Elite Wrestling, but negotiations fell through. Sabin and Shelley then met with WWE a few months back to discuss the future and what an offer may consist of, and that reportedly led to a deal.
Contract terms for Sabin and Shelley have not been confirmed, but this latest report notes that the former tag team champions received a great deal from World Wrestling Entertainment, said to be beneficial for the long term. They are reportedly expected to arrive in NXT on October 1 during the CW Network premiere.
The Guns are said to be thrilled to go work with talents on the NXT roster. It was also indicated that this "great deal" includes gigs as WWE Performance Center Coaches for the 42-year-old Sabin and the 41-year-old Shelley once they hang up their boots and retire from in-ring competition.
Officials reportedly have plans for Detroit's Finest and The Technical Messiah to be the face of the NXT tag team division, similar to Giulia in the women's division.
