Backstage update on why The Motor City Machine Guns signed with WWE - Reports

The Motor City Machine Guns signed with WWE back in September and the latest reports have revealed why. Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley shocked the world when they became the new WWE Tag Team Champions two weeks ago after just three matches on SmackDown.

Sabin and Shelley have wrestled all over the world across different promotions such as TNA Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and New Japan Pro Wrestling. They were considered one of the best tag teams in the world not in WWE.

That all changed when The MCMG officially signed with the company and made their debut on the October 18th episode of SmackDown. They faced Los Garza and A-Town Down Under in a triple-threat qualifying match. They won that match and beat #DIY the following week before taking home the gold on the same night after defeating Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa of The Bloodline.

However, many still wonder why The Motor City Machine Guns signed with WWE when they could have also joined AEW. Dave Meltzer revealed on the latest episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley's decision came down to the best offer financially.

"WWE is the one that made the better offer, whether it's more money or better storyline, I don't know. I didn't get the impression AEW (was interested) ... (MCMG) were looking to get a good paying job in the wrestling business," Meltzer said. [H/T: Wrestling, Inc.]

The Motor City Machines Guns became the first team in wrestling history to win tag team gold in WWE, ROH, NJPW, and TNA Wrestling.

Jey Uso wants a tag team match vs. Motor City Machine Guns

In an interview with Metro UK last month, Jey Uso was asked about reuniting The Usos and possibly facing The Motor City Machine Guns. Jey was open to the idea since they could finally find out who the better tag team between The Usos and MCMG is.

"I would like to, and if I did go with the Motor City Machine Guns, I would like for my brother to do (it with me). I would like to do it with Jimmy because I feel like with Jimmy, Sami (Zayn) is easy too, but I feel like with Jimmy, man, we are the best tag team in the world. We've done everything, but I feel like if we did have a comeback, man, I would like to run with those guys (MCMG), a couple guys from NXT, maybe the Lucha Bros," Jey said.

It will interesting to see how long The Usos reunion would last, especially with the Survivor Series: WarGames at the end of the month.
