Details behind major Damian Priest botch at WWE Money in the Bank revealed - Reports

Damian Priest squared off against Seth Rollins in a World Heavyweight Championship Match at WWE Money in the Bank. The fight witnessed a controversial spot in which the champion seemed to have botched a pin.

While The Archer of Infamy defended his title, he also had to win to remain a member of The Judgment Day. Nevertheless, he was about to lose the match when The Visionary hit him with The Falcon Arrow and went for the pin. Surprisingly, the referee stopped the count after counting to two despite the World Heavyweight Champion not kicking out. Since then, many have speculated whether it was a botch from Priest or a mistiming.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer provided more details about what happened. He disclosed that he was told that the 41-year-old "just didn't kick out":

"I had asked around, and basically the story I heard was that he didn't kick out. I think there's a possibility that there might have been a timing.... this is not what I was told when I watched it, maybe there was a timing thing where it was supposed to be like one or two, and then the music hits, and then because Drew's coming down right away. And then maybe like that's supposed to be the thing in the music, but when I did ask it was, 'he just didn't kick out.' And you know, that was that so whether he was rocked, whatever it was, I don't know," he said.

Meltzer added that the referee should not have stopped the count. However, he was in a tough spot:

"So that was kind of like the way it was, so yeah, it was he didn't kick out, and they said that he didn't kick out, and the referee stopped the count, and the referee shouldn't stop the count, but the ref in that situation. Boy, did he have no choice. Boy, did he have no choice. What could he have done?"

Damian Priest retained his title at WWE Money in the Bank despite McIntyre cash-in

After winning the Men's Money in the Bank briefcase earlier in the night, Drew McIntyre kept his promise and cashed in during Damian Priest's World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins.

However, The Scottish Warrior failed to capture the title that he lost to The Judgment Day member at WWE WrestleMania XL as CM Punk interfered and attacked him with a chair and the championship belt, allowing Priest to hit the 39-year-old with the South of Heaven to pick up the victory.

As Damian Priest defeated Rollins and McIntyre at WWE Money in the Bank, the Judgment Day member will now defend his title against the 2024 King of the Ring Gunther at WWE SummerSlam. It would be interesting to see if El Campeon can overcome The Ring General.
