Drew McIntyre's backstage heat in WWE after taking huge now-deleted shot at CM Punk and referring real-life AEW incident - Reports
A report about whether Drew McIntyre is facing any heat following a huge shot at CM Punk and what happened in All Elite Wrestling has emerged. The real-life AEW incident is one that's infamous and what ultimately led to him leaving the company to join WWE months later.
CM Punk was engaged in a backstage brawl with Jack Perry at AEW All In 2023, where they got into a real-life argument. The argument turned physical, with monitors being dropped backstage. Punk had told Perry that he didn't need to use real glass in his match as it was dangerous, and Perry exposed this live on the show, which led to the fight.
Drew McIntyre took a huge shot at Punk in a now-deleted tweet, posting a picture with Perry and saying that it was a real picture. This was very similar to the shot Perry himself had taken, saying it was real glass.
The tweet was soon deleted with the picture. Now, WRKD Wrestling has reported on whether there's any real-life heat backstage for McIntyre at this time due to the reference to AEW.
As it turns out, the report says that there's no heat. McIntyre and Punk are working closely in this feud, and references to AEW and backstage issues were greenlit going into the feud. Punk apparently greenlit such references much ahead of time.
CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre already has a lot of heat heading into SummerSlam
CM Punk has cost Drew McIntyre everything heading into their match at SummerSlam. McIntyre was champion but Punk beat him up enabling Damian Priest to cash in the briefcase at WrestleMania XL. Punk then went on to take McIntyre out of a qualification match for the title.
He also cost him in actual title matches, showing up as the referee and also attacking McIntyre in the matches. Drew McIntyre has shown that he is ready to do away with Punk altogether by going after him with extreme ferocity.
