Gunther replaced former WWE Champion for segment with Bret Hart on WWE RAW - Reports
Gunther and Bret Hart had quite an intense face-off on WWE RAW this week. However, a recent report claims that the former Intercontinental Champion wasn't a part of the original plan to confront the returning Hall of Famer. The report states that former world champion, Drew McIntyre, was the first choice.
Bret Hart made his return to WWE after many years to a huge ovation from the crowd in Calgary. He was welcomed by Wade Barrett, who got a chance to ask him a question before Gunther made his presence known. The Ring General contested Hart's claim that he is "The best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be" before Sami Zayn cut him off.
On the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about WWE RAW. He stated that the original plan for the Bret Hart promo was for Drew McIntyre to confront him. He also added that the segment would make sense since CM Punk is a huge Hitman fan, giving the Stamford-based promotion the chance to further evolve their already heated feud.
Who did Gunther say his favorite wrestler was on WWE RAW?
The World Heavyweight Champion decided to ruin Bret Hart's homecoming on WWE RAW. When he entered the ring, he let The Hitman know that the WWE legend was the "best there was," but The Ring General is the best now and "the best there ever will be."
He further stated that while Hart will always be a hero to him, and a close second to his favorite wrestler, Goldberg. The same wrestler who the Hall of Famer claims to have ended his in-ring career.
The World Heavyweight Champion was interrupted by Sami Zayn. After a war of words, the two WWE Superstars went at it and had to be separated by officials.
It looks like WWE is working towards a match between Zayn and Gunther for Bad Blood. However, a rumor claims that the Imperium leader will be involved in a program with CM Punk at Survivor Series: WarGames.
