John Cena could challenge a top WWE champion at WrestleMania 41 - Reports

John Cena will begin his year-long WWE farewell tour in January when RAW moves to Netflix. The latest reports suggest that Cena could be in line to challenge a top champion at next year's WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Cenation Leader announced at Money in the Bank in July that 2025 will be the last year of his legendary WWE career. He is going to have a farewell tour next year starting in January and will end in December. He will remain with the company after that, but no longer as an active superstar.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter report, WWE is considering Cena for one of the two world title matches at WrestleMania 41. Nothing is set in stone with The Rock's status for the big event still up in the air, so the top brass are looking at other options.

Cody Rhodes is the current Undisputed WWE Champion and linked to a potential match against The Rock, who was teased on RAW after WrestleMania 40. There's also the rumored Triple Threat match that involves Roman Reigns, as well as the possible Rhodes-Reigns III.

On the other hand, Gunther is the current World Heavyweight Champion and has no clear challenger for next year. The report also said that CM Punk and Seth Rollins are other options for WrestleMania 41's main event landscape.

They were supposed to face each other for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40 before Punk's injury canceled those plans.

John Cena tied with Ric Flair for most world titles

One of the reasons why John Cena is being considered for a world title match at WrestleMania 41 is to break the record for the most world championships. Cena is currently tied with Ric Flair for the most world titles in history with 16 each.

The Cenation Leader has not held a world title since February 12, 2017 when he lost the WWE Championship to Bray Wyatt at Elimination Chamber. Cena holds the record for most WWE Championship reigns with 13.

It will be interesting to see if WWE gives the record to John Cena if he gets a title shot for either the Undisputed WWE Championship or World Heavyweight Championship.
