Rumor killer on a new WWE United States Championship belt

Baron Corbin is the current WWE United States Champion...

What's the story?

The Facebook page for the Florence Civic Center in Florence, South Carolina posted the promotional photo for a WWE Live event below.

The interesting part about the photo is a different WWE United States Championship on the shoulder of the current champion Baron Corbin, but this is not an indication that there is a new design for the belt on the way.

In case you didn't know...

The United States Championship originated with the NWA in 1971 with Harley Race as the first to hold the title. When WWE purchased WCW in 2001, the title was held by Booker T who was the champion until July 2001 when he gave the title to Chris Kanyon.

The heart of the matter

Many media outlets, including PWInsider, reported on the new title design, mentioning that it wasn't introduced as of this week's edition of SmackDown Live. Mike Johnson of PWInsider provided a follow-up to the photo recently.

Several of the site's readers would inform Johnson that this title design was a photoshop that made the rounds on sites like Reddit earlier in the year. The belt design in the photo seems to be a bootlegged version made in Pakistan.

At the time of this writing, there are not any indications that the WWE is planning on changing the belt design for the WWE United States Championship.

What's next?

Based on the developments on this week's edition of SmackDown Live, the WWE United States Champion, Baron Corbin, appears to be on a collision course with Bobby Roode at the next pay per view Clash Of Champions. The event takes place on December 17th in Boston, Massachusetts.

Author's take

I was never a big fan of the belt design for the WWE United States Championship, so I would definitely be up for a redesign sometime down the road.

I love the basic and classic design of the WWE Intercontinental Championship. If there was ever a redesign, I'd love to see something basic like this with a hint of the United States flag on the belt rather than take up the entire main plate.
