Legendary WWE star reportedly retiring at the age of 44

If a recent report is anything to go by, a major WWE name could soon be hanging up their wrestling boots in 2025. Rumors have suggested that Japanese wrestling legend Meiko Satomura would call it quits on her wrestling career next year.

Satomura is one of the most revered female wrestlers in the history of the business. Beginning her career back in 1995 with Gaea Japan, the 44-year-old star slowly became a household name in the country with her exploits in the ring. She even made several appearances for WCW in the mid-90s.

After decades of success, Meiko Satomura finally appeared for WWE in 2018 as part of the Mae Young Classic. She eventually signed with the company in 2020 and even became the NXT UK Women's Champion, a title she held for 451 days.

Since then, Satomura has only sporadically wrestled, with her last match coming at the recent Supershow in Osaka, Japan. Now, Tokyo Sports is reporting that Meiko Satomoru is planning to retire sometime next year.

2025 would mark the legendary star's 30th year in the business and could be the perfect time for her to walk away into the sunset.

WWE is currently touring Japan and it came as no surprise when the promotion chose to bring back Satomura to perform in front of her home crowd. The 44-year-old teamed up with Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair, and Bayley to defeat the team of Tiffany Stratton and Damage CTRL in front of a packed crowd.

It marked Meiko Satomura's first match for the promotion since the March 7, 2023 episode of NXT where she lost to Roxanne Perez. It now remains to be seen if the Stamford-based promotion has plans for her to wrestle more matches ahead of her calling it a day. There's no doubt her retirement would be an emotional affair for her fans.
