Major announcement at Crown Jewel regarding Gunther's next challenger - Reports
As Gunther prepares to become the inaugural Crown Jewel Champion tonight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, WWE has major plans for his next challenger. As per a new report, the announcement will be made during the Crown Jewel Premium Live Event.
Gunther vs. Cody Rhodes is the main event of the show. The two men waged a war of words and even got into some altercations since the bout was made official. Meanwhile, The Ring General's last title defense happened on the October 7 episode of RAW against Sami Zayn.
Per WrestleVotes, World Heavyweight Champion Gunther will defend the belt next against one of these five men — Seth Rollins, Dominik Mysterio, Damian Priest, Sheamus, and Braun Strowman. The Monster Among All Monsters sustained a torn groin injury in September during his Last Man Standing Match against Bronson Reed. WWE has not decided between Strowman and Sheamus.
"Set to be announced at Crown Jewel: Monday Night Raw will host a Fatal Four-Way match to determine the #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. Sources say the lineup includes Damian Priest, ‘Dirty’ Dom, Seth Rollins, and either Sheamus or a returning Braun Strowman - the last yet to be finalized." [H/T: WrestleVotes]
Gunther has laid down the challenge to Goldberg ahead of WWE Crown Jewel
While WWE CCO Triple H seemingly tried to lower the expectations during the Crown Jewel Kickoff regarding a potential appearance by WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg, Gunther did not hesitate.
The Austrian Anomaly commented on his confrontation with the legend at Bad Blood on La Previa, claiming that it was meant as a joke more than anything else. However, he added that if the former Universal Champion makes a move, he does not mind teaching the latter a lesson:
"I met a lot of [the legends] backstage [at Bad Blood], and one of the very few that I didn't meet that I just saw was there before was Goldberg, so when our eyes crossed, basically, I was like, 'Why not break some balls a little bit?' He doesn't seem able to take things lightly. I tried to lighten up the mood a little bit. If push comes to shove and he thinks he wants to get back into the business and wrestle again, then I'm happy to teach him a lesson!'"
It remains to be seen in what capacity Gunther walks out of Saudi Arabia. Not only because of the potential surprise Goldberg appearance, but it is a matter of determining who the TRUE Undisputed World Champion is in WWE: The Ring General or The American Nightmare?
