Major Cody Rhodes project reportedly scrapped
Cody Rhodes is about to pass the seven-month mark in his Undisputed WWE Championship reign, but he must make it to WrestleMania 41 to achieve one year. The milestone is questionable as Cody is a busy fighting champion. As WWE prepares for a new era, sources just revealed one unfortunate update on Cody's overall career.
The American Nightmare has found some mainstream success as a crossover entertainer in recent years with several film and television projects. Rhodes currently has at least one major project to be released. Years back, he moved to Hollywood to pursue acting, which he was obsessed with, and has cited that experience as being helpful to pro wrestling.
WWE will launch its Netflix era in 64 days when RAW moves to the streaming giant. This comes as no real surprise, but a new report from Fightful Select notes that Netflix is hoping to feature certain top stars on its platform every Monday night, but it seems they also want to feature various superstars in non-WWE projects.
Sources report that Rhodes had been in talks with Netflix officials about a potential movie role. The movie was not disclosed, but word is that the negotiations did not lead to a deal.
Netflix mentioned Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, and Roman Reigns as names from the men's division that they hope will be featured weekly on RAW. However, a WWE source noted that the rosters for that period have not been finalized yet. Talent sources also reported that they have not been told which brand they'll be on come January or anything else related to potential roster changes.
Released WWE Superstar at Netflix shoot; Cody Rhodes absent?
WWE and Netflix hosted a promo video shoot on October 27 to promote the company's flagship TV show and its debut on the streaming juggernaut in January. Fightful Select reports that various RAW and SmackDown Superstars were there.
Talents brought to the Netflix video shoot included IYO SKY, Kairi Sane, Elektra Lopez, The LWO, and The Motor City Machine Guns, among others. Baron Corbin was also present, but he was released on Friday. It appears main champions like Cody Rhodes, Gunther, Liv Morgan, and Nia Jax were not used.
The RAW Netflix premiere on January 6 is expected to be held at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. Fightful adds that people who work for the arena had the event hyped up to them as a major happening, but there's no word yet on exactly what that means.
