Major name reportedly receives contract offers from WWE and AEW
WWE and AEW often compete for various free agents, and fans have seen wrestlers jump from one company to the other in recent years. Sources have now revealed that a current champion is fielding offers from both the competing companies.
Triple H and Tony Khan lead the creative teams in the two companies and have so far not been shy to pick a wrestler from the other promotion.
Stephanie Vaquer is currently the CMLL World Women's Champion, and one-half of the inaugural CMLL World Women's Tag Team Champion with Zeuxis. The 15-year veteran was also the NJPW Strong Women's Champion until losing the Winner Takes All match against AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné at Forbidden Door. The Chilean wrestler, who also holds Mexican citizenship, has wrestled around the world since 2009.
La Primera has reportedly received offers from WWE and AEW. Reports indicated that the 31-year-old impressed many with her Forbidden Door performance, and soon after she received offers from officials in both companies.
Sources were not clear if Vaquer has received an actual on-paper contract offer, but it was indicated that she will make a decision on her future in the coming days. Her potential AEW or WWE signing was recently discussed on Wrestling Observer Radio, with Dave Meltzer praising Vaquer over Mercedes.
Vaquer made her in-ring debut for Tony Khan's promotion on June 26, defeating Lady Frost on Collision just days before Forbidden Door. She has never wrestled for WWE.
Stephanie Vaquer teases Forbidden Door rematch amid WWE - AEW rumors
Stephanie Vaquer dropped the NJPW Strong Women's Championship to Mercedes Moné at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. Mercedes' TBS Championship was also on the line in the Winner Takes All bout.
Vaquer teased a rematch almost immediately. The CMLL star spoke with Emily Mae Heller after the show and commented on the devastating 17-minute loss.
"I represented the NJPW Strong [Women's] Title all around the world, and I did it with my heart. Today, Mercedes beat me. She’s a great opponent but I’ll learn from my mistake. This is not the last time you see Stephanie Vaquer because I’ll be back and I want my rematch," Stephanie Vaquer said.
Mercedes has not confirmed or denied a rematch as of now. She is rumored to defend the TBS Championship against Britt Baker at AEW All In.
