Major star close to signing new deal with WWE - Reports

A major WWE Superstar could be close to signing a new deal with the promotion. The star in question was not booked for a match last weekend at WWE Bash in Berlin.

According to a new report from Mike Johnson of PW Insider, Sheamus and WWE are close to reaching a new deal. The report noted that the deal is close to being done or was just completed. It was also added that internally, the promotion believes The Celtic Warrior will be staying on for another three to five years.

The veteran competed in the Intercontinental Championship tournament on RAW to determine Bron Breakker's next challenger for the Intercontinental Championship. He battled Braun Strowman and Ludwig Kaiser in a Triple Threat match this past Monday night but came up short due to being attacked by Pete Dunne.

Braun Strowman emerged victorious, and The Monster of All Monsters will be facing Pete Dunne, Ilja Dragunov, and Jey Uso in a Fatal 4-Way match next Monday on RAW. The winner of the Fatal 4-Way will earn a title match against Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker.

WWE RAW star calls out Sheamus for using hated nickname

Pete Dunne recently called out Sheamus for taunting him by using the Butch nickname.

Dunne and the veteran were a part of The Brawling Brutes faction alongside Ridge Holland. However, the faction disbanded last year, and Dunne recently attacked Sheamus on RAW. Sheamus defeated his former stablemate in a singles match on the August 19 edition of the red brand.

In a vignette on WWE RAW last month, Dunne called out his former stablemate for referring to him as Butch and noted that his former nickname almost killed his career.

"I’ve been in this business long enough to know you’re gonna win matches, you’re gonna lose matches, it’s part of the job. But for Sheamus, that sc*mbag, to turn around and still call me Butch, to have a laugh that something that nearly killed my career, this is all I’ve got, man. He knows that. All I’ve ever been and ever will be is a fighter. To be demoralized and reduced to that name, it shows what kind of person he really is. I don’t deserve it. You all know that. But, you know what I do deserve, after all the setbacks and backstabs?" Pete Dunne said. [H/T Fightful]

The former champion went on hiatus for several months following his loss to Edge last August on SmackDown. He returned to the ring on the April 15, 2024, edition of WWE RAW and defeated Ivar in a singles match.
